About Us

Gail's Patchwork Emporium has been a patchwork institution since 1980, providing Quilters worldwide with the largest and diverse range of fabrics for patchwork quilts, clothing, cloth toys and homewares. This is all housed in a beautiful bluestone building set on three acres of wonderful gardens that can be explored by all and you are likely to meet other Quilters from somewhere around the world indulging in their passion of buying material for that special quilt.

On the 1st of December every year the store is decorated in Christmas finery for the start of Gail's annual sale that runs until the 31st of December with a large 20% off everything in store which includes fabric, trims, laces, tassels, giftware, vintage furniture, books, buttons, patterns, Christmas decorations, wire trees, bells, felt, linen, jelly rolls, layer cakes, beading, batting, silk and velvet flowers, ribbons and much more.

Gail travels the world seeking out those special little antique and vintage pieces that customers are searching for, whether they be buttons, lace, trims, sets of drawers (which she is especially fond of) or fabric. You are never quite sure just what you will find.

Bus groups arrive regularly as there are free tea, coffee and biscuits provided for all customers as we are more of a destination, not just a store. Gail and Colleen, Melissa and Glenda, our Quilty volunteers are on hand to help with those seams that will not meet!

If you are ordering on this website you will notice we elect to call for your payment details personally as Gail is manic about card fraud and wants you all to be safe and happy. We do have Paypal and Direct Payment options and we will email that information if requested. Our old website was the same and worked well so we are sticking to the ethic. We ship worldwide and will always try to get the best deal on postage for you as we know it counts and we have a special couple of tricks up our sleeves for international orders.

The stock has reached 15,000 very quickly and we will endeavour to load most new fabrics, books etc. as they arrive in store so if you are looking for something special just send an email request with your thoughts and we will post onto site overnight so you can view. It is just not possible to have every fabric on but just ask and we will do our best as usual.

We have built a trust over all these years with many thousands of customers which has been most evident when we experienced the horrendous fire on 31st October, 2011 which tore through our much loved store. Some 8,000 letters, cards and emails came from around the world with the most wonderful messages of support has spurred us to reopen and continue for a few years yet.
